Citizenship to be acquired with paid water, electricity bills and without knowledge of Macedonian

Paid bill for electricity, heating, telephone or water, health card, paid tax, property certificate… are just some of the evidence on the basis of which one can obtain Macedonian citizenship, provided by the draft law on citizenship.

The proposer of the law states that it should resolve the status of the people from the former Yugoslav republics, who lived in Macedonia until the day of the declaration of independence.

They should receive citizenship within three years of the law’s entry into force.

Macedonian citizenship can be acquired by a foreigner who has been married to a Macedonian citizen for at least three years and has lived in the country for at least one year, and does not have to know Macedonian.
