SSM urges Constitutional Court to reject “Sunday work day” initiative

The Union of Trade Unions of Macedonia (SSM) calls on the Constitutional Court to reject the initiative of the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia, which refers to the Law on Amendments and Supplements to the Law on Labor Relations, which in its content includes “work on Sundays” because it is contrary to the Constitution.

According to the SSM, the initiative will preserve the already established right to an uninterrupted weekly vacation consisting of at least 24 hours, for a period of seven days, of thousands of workers in the country.

“We urge the Constitutional Court to immediately reject the initiative of the Economic Chamber of RNM, which is contrary to the Constitution, and we encourage the respected judges to postpone the consideration of the initiative and its rejection, which is scheduled for Wednesday, and to schedule the session for this week and continue it for several days up until Sunday. The Court should call all employers from the Econimic Chamber of North Macedonia who are very concerned about being allowed to work on Sundays to feel how their fellow workers who have been working on Sundays without restriction and without being paid,” said the SSM in a press release on Tuesday.
